Linux Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Installation

Linux releases Ubuntu 12.04 LTS version on 26 April, 2012. In this tutorial, we will learn how to install Linux Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (32-bit/64-bit)

System requirements
RAM: Minimum 512 MB (32-bit) / 1 GB (64-bit)
Hard disk space: 25 GB free hard disk space
CPU: 2 GHz (Preferred)

Download Linux Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Download Linux Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (32-bit/64-bit) iso for desktop from the official webpage, i.e.:

Creating Ubuntu bootable USB stick on Windows
Step 1: Windows users have to download USB installer software from the following link:
USB installer is used to put Ubuntu 12.04 LTS into the USB stick as a bootable disk.
Note: Make sure you have at least 2 GB of free space in your USB stick.
Step 2: After download, double-click the Universal USB Installer setup.
Step 3: Press I Agree.
Step 4: Now select Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop from the drop-down box.
Step 5: Press the Browse button to select the downloaded Ubuntu 12.04 LTS iso file.
Step 6: Choose the USB stick drive and press the Create button.
Step 7: Press the Yes button to continue.
Step 8: Now press the Close button.

Creating Linux Ubuntu 12.04 LTS bootable USB stick on Ubuntu operating system
Step 1: Open Startup Disk Creator.
--> Classic desktop users: Systems --> Administration --> Startup Disk Creator
--> Unity desktop users: Just type “Startup Disk Creator”
Step 2: Press the Other button to select the downloaded Linux Ubuntu 12.04 LTS iso file.
Step 3: Make sure the USB device is detected and press the Make Startup Disk button.
Step 4: Press the Quit button.

Linux Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Installation
Before proceeding with the installation, please make sure you have a compatible hardware resource, Linux Ubuntu 12.04 LTS CD/DVD/USB Flash Drive.
Step 1: Insert the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Installation disk into the CD/DVD drive or insert your bootable Ubuntu 12.04 LTS flash drive into the system and Restart your system.
Step 2: After restart, immediately press the key (Del, Esc, F2, F10, F9, etc.) set by the manufacturer of your motherboard.
Note: Some computers tell you which button to press to enter the BIOS as the computer startup.
Step 3: Select Advanced BIOS features and hit the enter key.
Step 4: Set CD or DVD-ROM as the first boot device of your computer system or set USB or Removable drives as the first boot device of your computer system.
Step 5: Now, Save your BIOS Settings.
Step 6: Restart your desktop/laptop.
Step 7: After Restart, the Ubuntu Installation Setup starts now. Choose Language and press Enter key.
Step 8: Choose Install Ubuntu and press Enter key.
→ It will take some time to analyze/load something.
Step 9: Again choose Language and press Continue.
→ It will analyze disk space, power source, and internet connectivity and you need to choose whether to install updates and other third-party software while installing operating systems. Select both, if you are connected to the internet and press Continue.
Step 10: Now choose Something else option.
Step 11: Now you can create partition of your own.
Step 12: Now select the partition to install Linux Ubuntu and press Install Now.
→ Setup will start the installation in the background, you can see the status in the bottom.
Step 13: Choose Time Zone and press Continue.
Step 14: Now choose the Keyboard Layout, leave as it is and press Continue.
Step 15: Now type your name, computer name, user name (for login) and password.
Step 16: Select the Login Automatically option, if you do not want to type the password each time. Now press Continue.
→ It will proceed with the rest of the installation.
→ You can also Skip some installation/configuration during the installation.
Step 17: Now press Restart Now and remove the installation media while rebooting.
Step 18: Select User Name and type the password and hit Enter key/press Login.
