In this tutorial, we will learn how to install Ubuntu 16.04 LTS desktop (32-bit/64-bit) on a computer system/laptop.
System Requirements
Processor: 2 GHz dual-core processor
RAM: 2 GB
Hard disk: 25 GB of free space
Download Ubuntu 16.04 LTS desktop ISO file (32-bit/64-bit)
--> Download ISO file of the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS desktop from their official website, i.e.:
--> Once the ISO file is downloaded, burn it onto a DVD drive/Pen drive.
Ubunto 16.04 LTS desktop Installation
Step 1: Boot your computer system/laptop with the bootable DVD drive/bootable Flash drive.
Step 2: After restart, immediately press the key (Del, Esc, F2, F10, F9, etc.) set by the manufacturer of your motherboard.
Note: Some computers tell you which button to press to enter the BIOS as the computer startup.
Step 3: Select Advanced BIOS features and hit the enter key.
Step 4: Set CD or DVD-ROM as the first boot device of your computer system or set USB or Removable drives as the first boot device of your computer system.
Step 5: Now, Save your BIOS Settings.
Step 6: Restart your desktop/laptop.
→ After Restart, the Ubuntu Installation Setup starts now.
Step 7: Click the Install Ubuntu button to start the installation process.
Step 8: Preparing to install Ubuntu 16.04 LTS desktop.
→ In case your desktop/laptop is connected to the Internet and wants to install updates and third-party software during the installation, you can select both the options. Otherwise, leave the options unchecked.
→ Click Continue to proceed further.
Step 9: Choose Something else option to create customize partition schemes.
→ If you want to create your own partitions, then select Something else option.
→ If you want to delete all data and install Ubuntu with the default partition scheme, then select Erase disk and install Ubuntu option.
Step 10: Create customize partitions
→ Select the partition and click ‘+’ option to create a new partition.
→ Specify the mount point as ‘/’ or ‘/boot’ and file system as ‘ex4’ and the partition size minimum of 500 MB.
Step 11: Once you are done with the partition table, select the partition and click Install Now.
Step 12: Click Continue to proceed.
Step 13: Specify the Time Zone and click Continue.
Step 14: Select the Keyboard Layout and click Continue.
Step 15: Now type your name, computer name, user name (for login) and password.
→ Select the Login Automatically option, if you do not want to type the password each time.
Step 16: Now click Continue to proceed.
→ Once the installation is completed, you will get the message to reboot/restart the computer system/laptop.
Step 17: To reboot the computer system/laptop, click the Restart Now button and remove the installation media while rebooting.
Step 18: After restart, select your User Name and type Password and hit the Enter key/click Login.
